The Oklahoma 4-H projects allow members to gain life skills while learning fun and exciting facts. One of the first steps to success in 4-H is the selection of 4-H Projects. 4-Hers are not limited to choosing only one project. Infact, the average 4-Her is enrolled in 1.7 differernt project area.

In Oklahoma, Plant and Animal project are the most popular with 56,828 enrolled members, while another 36,640 are active in the Science and Technology field. Healthy Lifestyle Education and Environmental Education are not far behind with 27,695 and 20,423 respectively. Some other popular project areas are Communications and Expressive Arts, Personal Development and Leadership, Consumer and Family Sciences, and also Citizenship and Civic Education.

This guide is designed to help volunteers and parents assist 4-H members in selecting and planning their 4-H projects. Each project is listed with the following information: project code number and project name. The project code number matches the codes on the members 4-H Enrollment Form. A project statement and focus is used to explain what members will accomplish and learn by taking part in the project's activities. The suggested level provides information on who the project is for. Most Oklahoma projects are divided according to three levels: beginner, intermediate, or advanced. These levels do not refer to age level, only general degree of difficulty. Parents and volunteers should help the member access what level they should take for each project. What members can do, gives a very brief listing of some of the activities and learning experiences that are included in the project. Materials available, lists the major project materials that are available and recommended for use with each project level.
