During January and early February, (insert county) County 4-H members will be participating in a service project called the Kids Helping Kids campaign.  Four-H youth will be pounding the pavement collecting donations in neighborhoods, shopping centers and local businesses to benefit the Oklahoma City Ronald McDonald House and Oklahoma 4-H.  The 4-H’ers are requesting donations of one-dollar or more, and in exchange you will receive a buy-one-sandwich-get-one-free coupon redeemable at participating McDonald’s restaurants.

The following are talking points for use in (insert date) 4-H interview about their Kids Helping Kids Campaign with (insert names of those to be interviewed, only two to three people recommended):

  • (Insert names) will be in the (insert call letters) studio to talk about 4-H and a community service project they are kicking off.
  • (Insert county) County 4-H members will be collecting one-dollar donations benefiting the Oklahoma City Ronald McDonald House and the Oklahoma 4-H Youth Development Program with their month-long Kids Helping Kids campaign.
  • (Insert county) County 4-H members will be at (insert exact collection location, time frame and date).
  • Oklahoma 4-H is the largest youth organization in the state and offers 60 project areas to develop youth into competent, capable citizens. The Kids Helping Kids campaign allows 4-H members an opportunity to utilize the citizenship and community service components they learn in the 4-H program.
  • In the 19-year history of the campaign, Oklahoma 4-H members have collected well over $673,000 with none of the donations wrapped up in the administrative costs of running the campaign. The Oklahoma City McDonald’s Co-op pays those expenses.
  • Fifty percent of the donations go to financing house improvements and offset daily operation costs for the Oklahoma City Ronald McDonald House, with the other fifty percent going directly to county and state 4-H youth programs.
  • The Oklahoma City Ronald McDonald House serves as a home-away-from-home for families with children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. The House has helped over 40,000 people across the state since its doors opened in 1984.
