Kids Helping Kids 2012
For 25 years, Oklahoma 4-H’ers have been helping raise money for other youth in need. By participating in the
4-H Kids Helping Kids campaign, 4-H’ers have raised more than $800,000 to benefit the Ronald McDonald House
Charities of Oklahoma City. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oklahoma City benefits children by providing a
'home away from home' for families with seriously ill or injured children receiving medical treatment in the
Oklahoma City area.
How does this process work?
Sign-up forms are mailed to your county Extension educator, who then provides the forms to clubs and volunteers
who are interested. Forms are due back in the state 4-H office in December. Your Extension educator will
determine the date that the forms need to be returned to the county office so they can get them to the state
in time. Coupons are then distributed to the county office. The campaign begins in December and lasts until
February, when all remaining coupons and funds are required back at the state 4-H office.
How do I raise money?
The primary fundraising method used in Kids Helping Kids is donations. For each dollar donation, the member
gives the donor a McDonald’s coupon that is good for one free sandwich with the purchase of a sandwich.
How is the money split?
Of the funds raised, 33 percent remain in the county to benefit the county and clubs and 66 percent return to
the Oklahoma 4-H Foundation, who then sends the funds to Ronald McDonald House Charities. For example, a
county in the 2010 campaign raised $3,256. The county kept $1,107.17 of the money and the Oklahoma 4-H
Foundation received $2,149.21, with $1,628 being given to RMHC. This is a fundraiser that benefits both 4-H
and RMHC!
Remember…
The campaign is only as successful as you make it! Some counties raise close to $4,000, while others raise less.
Every little bit helps RMHC, though, so get out there and campaign!
Savings bonds are awarded to the top seller in each county as long as the county raises $250; in addition, the
top four sellers in the state are awarded savings bonds and the top four clubs in the state are awarded gift
certificates to the National 4-H Mall. Prizes are also given to youth collecting $25, $50, and $75 or more. The
top fund raiser in the state receives a $1,000 savings bond.
December kicks off the 25th annual Kids Helping Kids campaign. Participating 4-H members solicit
donations to benefit the Ronald McDonald House in Oklahoma City and Oklahoma 4-H. Oklahoma 4-H’ers
raised more than $16,000 in the 2010 campaign! The deadline to submit registration materials for the
2012 Kids Helping Kids is December 8, 2011.
