You
will need a pegboard, a 10-foot skein
of wool yarn (preferably white wool), one 5-foot skein of yarn
and seven ties.
Starting with the 10-foot
skein, tie the yarn around the head peg with a good strong knot.
Now wind the yarn from the head down and around the two leg pegs
at the bottom and up around the head peg again. Do this four times,
and let the yarn hang. Do not cut the yarn. Now take the 5-foot
skein and tie the end to the left arm peg. Wind the yarn from
the left arm peg to the right arm peg and back again. Do this
four times. Do not cut the yarn. Let it hang. Take the yarn from
the head peg and make two more winds down around the bottom leg
pegs. Take the yarn from the left arm peg and wind it to the right
arm peg, back and forth, until it is all used up. Let the end
hang for the time being. Take the yarn from the top head peg,
and use the rest of it, winding from top to bottom, and let the
loose end just hang for the time being. Now tie one of the loose
ties around the yarn just below the top head peg. This will form
a neck. Tie it tightly with a double knot. Tie one of the loose
ties just inside the left arm peg and another just inside the
right arm peg. Next, tie one on the main body, just below the
arms. This will form a waist. Remember to tie it good and tight.
If you are making a boy, tie one just right of the left foot peg
and another just left of the right foot peg. Now cut the yarn
between the two foot ties. That will form the legs. If you are
making a girl, do not tie at feet. Just cut the yarn between the
two foot pegs to form a skirt. Now slip the yarn from the head
peg and the arm pegs. Take one tie, and run it through the opening
made by the head peg, and tie it tightly on the very top. This
will provide a way to hang your yarn doll and will also help maintain
the shape of the head. |
